do hubs wear out and become a bit baggy at the engagement ring? pawls are new on my Hope Pro II, but it feels like it’s taking an eternity to engage sometimes.
I can’t help but think it’s because I’ve been riding a fixed wheel to commute on 🙄 which has instant engagement.
which hubs have lots of engagement points? and does it make much difference to the feel?

I have a superstar superleggera on my SS.

It has a ramp pawl and 120 notches so engagement is pretty much instantaneous. Some people have had a little problem with it slipping but a re-grease fixes it I think.

Ive never had a problem with mine.

I use the Crank Brothers Iodine wheelset and they have 6 pawls as opposed to the 4 pawls on Pro2 and because the system uses an alternating 3 pawl engagement you get a massive 48 clicks per revolution, against a 24 clicks per revolution on the pro 2 – I feel like I am getting instant engagement!

Industry Nine. 6 Pawls in 2 sets of 3, 1 offset at 3 degrees to the other. Each has 3 teeth and there are 20 engagement points on the hub. Wheel will never spin more than 3 degrees without engaging. Is effectively instantaneous have been very impressed with mine.

Christ, that’s pricey. Shimano used to do something similar, the silent clutch hub. I had one on an old Saracen back in the late 90s, but the design seems to have gone the way of the dinosaur. Pity, if they did one for disc brakes, I’d have another straight away(but not at ^that price. Even though they were a little heavier.

I use 72poe Hadleys,have used I9’s aswell,Both are brilliant,I9’s are a bit quicker.
