How long should I ice a sprained ankle for?

I've broken my ankle twice, both times I was told by freinds and helpers that it was just a sprain, luckily my Dad is a vbet and he insisted that I go to casualty both times. Both times broken, and yet I could put all my weightg on it and move it fine.
So get it checked.
