I do have a SSN installer tool, but seriously contemplating getting a head doctor. Are they only really for carbon steerers?
Any advice please from someone who is using one.

sfn works fine, aside from desire (which is a great reason) is there a reason why the head dr is any better?

No they are for anything – if you want one get one – I like them as I don’t have to wack the SFN further down the tube and fit another if I have a short steerer bolt, or it doesn’t bite properly…. But SFN do their job most of the time, they are light and cheap!

I’ve got one on one set of forks and they are fine, it’s never come loose. I do have to loosen it to remove the crown race though as it does expand the steerer tube.

They are an over-engineered solution to a problem that doesn’t exist imho. If you already have a star nut setter then i would definately stick with that.

Head doctor’s a more fiddly, less reliable option.
