Mines is going off for its first full service since buying it in 2008 this week, it did dump its oil but until that it was very much fit and forget.

Floats are fine, very much fit and forget (I ran one for 4 years). On the more expensive shocks it's nice to be able to turn all the platform off for downhills but it doesn't make a huge difference.

As long as the stock setup suits you, they're fine- really nice kit. But if you don't like the propedal setup it needs professionally rejigged, which will bump the price a lot.
Some frames suit propedal more than others, and some really benefit from having it switchable...
