Shimano MP56 look like they'd fit the bill but I cant seem to find any in size 9 anywhere...
Any recommendations?

Look the part. How stiff is the sole, stiffer than the soles on a pair of skate type shoes?

I've had a pair of these for about 3 years and they are great. Got mine for about £35 from eBay.
Soles stiffer than a skate shoe, I used to use Nikes or Vans.
