Ok . . . been Persuaded to join two mates for some DH action in the dark tonight.
1st time I've ridden off road in the dark.Got some lights.... well that's about it really... any tips so not as to end up in A & E on a Sunday eve?

if you're doing full-on dh as your 1st night ride I'd suggest booking early for a bed on orthopaedics

well take it easy and walk anything you are unsure of but have fun night riding rocks.
Maybe a non DH route may have been a better idea to test you and your lights out before launching yourself on the DH.
But if it's a DH course you ride a lot you should be fine just beware of the dive bombing forest beasties and "The Sniper" just avoid the "red Dot"

Got no worries about walking stuff, not at all
No rocks, glad to say, just loads of trees and steep ground ( Plan to avoid tree's btw )

Take a helmet torch or summit in case you get a flat/breakdown. They're dead useful for fixing things.

Don't ride in front of someone with brighter lights than you. You'll only see your own shadow.

Take with you garlic/cross,holy water,a gun and any other self protection item you can think of.

Just back from my first night ride and found it helps to stay loose on the bike (more than normal) as you're always going to be skipping or hitting round some rocks or large stones you didn't spot.

iv done cwmcarn DH in the dark a good few times, i wouldnt worry about it u got lights as long as they are good u'll e fine

Not too many layers.. winter gloves and socks and maybe tights.. the trick is to keep moving if its cold.. but dont stand around too long after your ride cos you will chill very quickly.. forecast this week is cold and getting colder. Buy a P7 if you think rides might get regular and longer - very bright and you can carry several small light batteries for it as well.. charge your phone.

Glad you enjoyed it. Went out for the first time @ night tonight for ages. Loved it. My new partly homemade helmet light is superb!
Also smear some washing up liquid ( tiny amount ) on the lenses add a little water. Wait to dry and then buff with a soft cloth. Reduces steaming up.

unless you have a Troutlight, in which case your normal dark glasses will be fine...
