Following on from the other thread.

Lots came to mind but really Yesterday is a clear winner for me.

    Here Comes the Sun.

It must have been rubbish being George Harrison. In any other band he’d have been considered a musical genius. As opposed to ‘the third best writer in the band, and a bit better than the drummer”

Let It Be, almost entirely for Phil Spector’s obsessive re-engineering of the sound from old scraps. Miles better than the ‘naked’ version of a few years back. A real example of the producer’s art, whether or not you like the final result.

I genuinely struggle to think of any others that I’d listen to if they came on the radio.

Norwegian Wood – for the opening line alone…

    Nick f, really?

I love Phil Spector stuff (apart from the murdering of course), but I really liked ‘naked’. I think he only really added stuff to “let it be” and “the long and winding road” anyway

At the moment, Norwegian Wood, although that will probably change by tomorrow.

Grievoustim, sorry, should have said that I meant the track rather than the album.

That said, the Spector influence was more than just a few tracks. Certainly The Long and Winding Road, I Me Mine, Across The Universe and Let It Be all have a lot of Spector in them. Interestingly (for me, anyway) a lot of the Naked stuff is in any case the original that Spector managed to assemble from the crap (according to Lennon) he was given, only with the overdubs and the whole Wall Of Sound effects(loads of reverb/delay) removed.

    Fair point nickf

Have you seen any of the “fly on the wall” footage that was recorded during the making of the “let it be” album. Incrediblly tense and awkward scenes of bickering between the band, who obviously were not getting along at all at the time.

Apparently george quit the band at one point because yoko took one of his chocolate digestives without asking.

Paperback Writer, especially that feedback George Harrison does on the intro before segueing into the riff.

Tomorrow Never Knows, Here, There and Everywhere and For No One are probably my favourites.
Emmylou Harris does a beautiful version of Here, There and Everywhere, which I love to bits.

Not a Beatles fan really but my favourite would probably be Tomorrow Never Knows. Quite like Taxman too.

Also as done by Lucky Sperms…. 😀
