Consistency-wise I mean. I'm guessing I can formulate something by mixing up some cross country lube with some moly grease to save the expense of buying the real thing. Any thoughts for a tightwad?

CK Ring Drive lube...what's it like?

The best economy measure is to get the real thing.
I believe if you drag through the manuals on CK website, they mention using multigrade motor oil if necessary.
For the sake of £7 a bottle, is it worth scrimping?

How can you be a tightwad if you forked out for the hubs in the first place!? Just get the real thing also triflow is needed and can be used as a chain lube.

Ah, found it, in the Technical Service Manual.
If Chris King RingDrive™ lube in not available, a quality 10w synthetic oil may be substituted.
Do not substitute other brands of grease, as they may be too sticky for the helix of the RingDrive™. Running the hub on oil will cause the RingDrive™ to be more audible, yet functionally no different.Posted 7 months ago # -
Well I'm a tightwad now because I have no money left after spending it on an overpriced & under-performing hub
10w synthetic, cheers, might have some of that in the garage.

Look after them and you'll still have great hubs in 10 years

Yep, I was a little worried when I got mine with them stating 60hr break in periods, feeling really draggy out of the box and needing to continually adjust, after 3 rides needing to adjust either mid ride or after they are running super smooth and really quick. Really looking forward to the first service in a month then getting the hub tool to completely strip down. I was warned by many shops not to get them but I think they are a quality bit of kit and a home mechanics dream. Looking forward to more than 10 years of fettling!

Geee... Pro 2 hubs 3 years of hard use not missed a beat... enjoy dragging those heavy overpriced hubs around

Might be a little heavy but will leave those very draggy pro 2's for dead on the roll down hill

Well I have an old Hope XC on my other rear wheel & so far it's winning

Mark - I've got some ring drive lube you can have.
I don't think I'm every going to drag that useless excuse for a hub out of the shed again so you might as well have the lube.

Very kind of you cheers Aidan. I think we're on the same page with these hubs. I've had way more success with Hopes of various flavours. I already owe you a couple of quid for postage of those maps (thanks!) so add this to the bill & let me know...or we can do a ride again sometime. Cheers.

interesting, both mine and a mate's have frozen before. Annoyingly, I had just had a pee before discovering the frozen hub.
