Without knowing the story how can we judge his duplicitous actions.

Reads to me more like a “member of the press” has approached him for confirmation of a story, and we were going to see a “close personal friend” say it was true…

My point was, why does a public figure (MP) think that using twitter messaging is a suitable medium for communicating a bit of (potential) skulduggery. And then to cock up using direct messaging and post it to the world == treble facepalm.
