The Shimano chain on my road bike (Scott sub classic hybrid) broke recently after only about 300 miles. Also managed to break the same type of chain on my old mountain bike last year so wasn't keen to use Shimano again ( I weigh less than 70kg). I've replaced it with a KMC X9 chain with the missing link.
After shortening it and fitting it, I pulled the chain etc to lock it in place. Seems to be OK - problem is that with fairly little effort on pushing either side of the link together it comes apart again.
Seems pretty loose to me but wondered if this was normal (ie chains get pulled apart not pushed together ) Am I worrying needlessly ? Any ideas please ?

KMC make Shimano chains IIRC - I think! The missing link does come apart quite easy when clean.

Thanks SV. The KMC chain seems better - and easier to link. From what you say, sounds like it'll become less easy to split as it gets used. I'll stop worrying - cheers
