I got one of those chain wear tools and my chain is due for replacement. Are they basically all the same? Certainly all seem to be pretty much the same weight. Is it worth getting a SRAM for the power link? Or should I get a shimano and fit a power link (or not bother)?

Do XT spec chains work any better with XT mechs? I would have thought it’d be more linked to cassette, which is probably not XT spec

    Cheers

Connex chains are proper good, and come with the best power link you can buy. And they’re not particularly expensive.

    Assuming you want 9 speed..

Realman – You forgot to add “but in use do their job no better than an £8 sram chain would”

KMC chains have their own Powerlink style joining link and seem a good option too.

You mean the chains where you need to buy a special tool to use their tool free “quick” links?
