there's a school of thought that says if you didn't have to brake for the corner, then you weren't going fast enough on the straight.

there is also a school of thought that says if you are a superskillfullninja you can stay off the brakes carry the momentum through the corner using such things as berms and come out even quicker

What does "fast enough" mean? When I ride, it's not a race. YMMV

Is the dog creating barking bumps?
Hahaha.

I went yesterday and nobody in my group of 5 complained at all about the braking bumps, in fact a couple of the lads thought they added a bit of a challenge. Everybody loved the DH sections and most of us enjoyed the climbs. Much better to climb up singletrack than fireroads. One of our group is a bit of a beginner when it comes to riding this sort of stuff enthusiastic but has a crap bike with forks that barely work and brakes that don't work at all, and he thought the DH sections were amazing and had no problems with the braking bumps.
ST What I do have a problem with is the root that was sticking out and caused me to crash! It was on the switchbacks linking the Dog to the Monkey just before the rail crossing. The crash had nothing to do with me not looking in the right direction and not paying enough attention as to what was happening in-front of me it was 100% the fault of you leaving those roots exposed!!! I nearly had my left nipple cut off in the crash FFS!!!!! Do something about it.

Yes but the fun of riding it derives from racing.
In the same way that the javelin contest in the olympics derives from warfare. They aren't actually trying to attack anybody, but that's how it came about.Posted 7 months ago # -
I lurv brakingbumps so my gnarly 6" beast can smooth them out and make me look alot better than I actually am

And can somebody tell me why the FC let a magnetic tree grow near stepping stones. Bloody thing!

I pump through the braking bumps these days to build up speed for the corners, ace fun

I do sort of agree with part of what the OP has said. There were some great berms on one of the sections near the end that are now just a series of braking bumps/holes. Yes it's MTBing and it's not supposed to be smooth etc etc but that's not quite the point I don't think. It's not just about riding over bumps.

course it is. I want to be faster than everyone. I am clearly not, but it doesnt stop me trying.

the only braking bump photo i got from today, all the others are too blurry...because of the bumps

braking bumps by rOcKeTdOgUk, on Flickrstill, is there any need to panic brake here?
Posted 7 months ago # -
I'm probably going to ride Cannock some time next week, first time in ages. Good job my only bike is a 7" DH bike at the minute, those braking bumps look lethal
Posted 7 months ago # -
quit moaning - if you want a smooth course find a bmx track or a nicely tarmac'd road,
Posted 7 months ago # -
Dunno why, that is one of those pics that makes me ache to have a ride.
Posted 7 months ago # -
still, is there any need to panic brake here?
Clearly yes, because someone appears to have left some bloody great black cables across the track.Posted 7 months ago # -
