    Hi

    can anybody recommend a non technical ride that would give the gf a view of a massive blooming heather scenario (pref near Berks ….)

    no would happily go very N, but that’s a good idea – we’ve done the railway and a few other forest tracks, also wonder about Exmoor etc

    Hi gus. There is usually a good display here, you could incorporate it into a non-technical ride including some former gravel pits (Moor Green nature Reserve) with plenty of birds to see in the water. Happy to help with more specifics. 🙂 http://www.bbowt.org.uk/reserves/Wildmoor-Heath

    A bit further away, but Ockham Common/Chatley Heath a couple of miles east of Woking also have plenty of heather, and gentle terrain.

    Plus you’ve also got Chatley Semaphore Tower, the disused Wisley airfield, and the Royal Horticultural Society Gardens to explore (albeit you have to pay for the RHS gardens).

    Some stuff in the Peak District goes very purple indeed. Probably as close as Exmoor.
