I'm in the market for a long travel frame (140/160mm) that will take a 160mm fork. The frame must be an XL 21" minimum and fit a 6'6" 105kg rider. Not really wanting to pay more than £1400 tops. Any suggestions? I would have went for a specialized enduro but they don't do framsets this year! Also looked at the Yeti 575 but seem to have reduced there sizing this year.

Cheers!

Nukeproof Mega's are coming in XL soon...... And with that budget you'd have change for some Flows on Hope hubs and a dropper £££

Had a look at the Nukeproof mega. Can't see the geometry for the Xl yet but it looks a bit short in the seat and head tube. I have pretty good finishing kit to put straight on from my meta 6. Cheers for the reply's!

I was thinking a 6" 67 degree head tube with a good long wheelbase. Santa Cruz seen to have reduced there sizing as well. Any non main stream brands that I'm missing?

you don't need 160mm of travel when you have the legs of a 6ft6er.

😉

I'm 6'7" and really can't use most off the peg bikes at all. Screwed up my meniscus cartilage as a result of riding 21" bikes that were too small.

I've got a custom hardtail which works out at about 22.5". But my 22" Surly karate monkey fits perfectly too. Take a look at their big frames

An Orange 5 is right on the cusp of your price limit, but they started doing a 22" last year, and it'll take either a 140 or 160 fork (140 at the rear).

CRC still have a couple of Yeti 575 frames in XL for £850 btw...

Great to hear Nukeproof are doing an XL soon in the Mega. I'm kinda in the same position as you (if I can sneak ANOTHER new bike past the wife) and am a similar size weight (6'6" / 110kgs) so interested to hear what you end up selecting.

Rocky Mountain Slayer or Altitude - my XL vertex is essentially a 21" frame.

Cheers for the replys. I was very interested in the Orange 5, but heard a few had been cracking and probs with warranty. Emailed Orange to ask about suitability for my height and weight and that I have cracked a few of my previous frames but didn't hear anything back. So I will take that as they are not suitable!

I looked at the Yeti on sale on CRC web site. But again at my weight the carbon chain stays are not suitable. Yeti told me anyone above 190lb might have problems with flex.

So I'm still on the look out for a suitable frame!! Just wish spesh still done the enduro as a frame set! Good sizing and warranty if I should ever need it.

Sherry did you ever find a frame?

i'm in a similar situation, got bored of replacing parts on my 120 susser and am now in the market for a stronger bike as i'm not sure my technique is too kind on bikes.

I'd suggest the 22" orange five, ticks all the boxes and doesn't appear too gate like, though I reckon you'd probably be fine with a 20".

I'm 6'5" weigh 115-120 with kit, run a 150 fork and fox van r coil on the rear, the bike has been used everywhere, trails trail centres, dh tracks and the alps last year, bike is still rock solid.

For what it's worth I have not seen a cracked five with my own eyes, but as it's cool to hate you'll hear plenty of stories of them.

I have a second hand Cove G-spot frame with a ti sprung DHX 5 shock to suit your weight that I would sell on very cheap if you'd be interested. Email in my profile I think! (must check!)

Yeti are very long for their size, I'm just under 6'5" and a L is a lovely fit, the XL must be mahoosive. could be worth checking out the sb66 or something.

yeah my cannondale is (large about 21.5 i think) and it fits me well, but i think i want something a little smaller - i used to ride a 17.5 HT and loved the way i could throw it around, was difficult to pedal up hill though so thinking between 19 and 21" would be about perfect, with probaly 140mm rear and 150-160 out front, any larger i think is probably too excessive for 90% of my riding

The frame must be an XL 21" minimum and fit a 6'6" 105kg rider.

The new 22" Five is build like a battleship, the head/downtube connection is absolutely massive. That said, I think most of the cracking complaints were swingarms, seriously can't see anything on the front end dying. Similar height, 93kg or so rider here.

Those Enduros are a bargain. If they'd appeared on there 6 months ago I'd have bought one of them in a flash, that said, very chuffed with the Five, big maxle rear, tapered front etc.
