Watching Braveheart and it occurs to me that Patrick Macgoohan’s Edward I must be one of the best OTT movie baddies –
Longshanks: Not the archers. My scouts tell me their archers are miles away and no threat to us. Arrows cost money. Use up the Irish. The dead cost nothing.
Longshanks: Archers.
English Commander: I beg pardon, sire. Won’t we hit our own troops?
Longshanks: Yes… but we’ll hit theirs as well. We have reserves. Attack.
I wanted this to be professional, efficient, adult, cooperative. Not a lot to ask. Alas, your Mr. Takagi did not see it that way… so he won’t be joining us for the rest of his life.
Gave me a few sleepless nights as an adult – only ever seen it on TV the once and, up until now, hadn’t met anyone else who’d seen it. Anytime I’ve described it to mates they’ve taken the piss at the idea of a phone box being scary.
