Other than our awesome friend Kaesae, is there anywhere reasonably priced to pick up a set of bearings for a 2007 Trance? Looked online and the only place I looked made me start to think twice about giving Mr Mental my business.

a proper bearing shop in your local industrial estate. The number on your bearing eg 68022 gives the size, or take the bearing to them...

not necessarily - the one in Lancaster is v expensive compared to say BETD. Beware of cheap bearings on Ebay - very short life.

RS Online
Simplybearings.co.uk
mountain bike componants (think its .co.uk but google it)
Also Chain Reaction have between 33-50% off various sizes at the mo, still expensive but they are Enduro MAX bearings so supposedly better sealed and packed with more greaseYou have two options with bearings, buy cheap and buy twice (or more) or buy quality and (hope) they last
Beware ebay sellers selling supposedly SKF bearings for a couple of quid

note that Sheldon Brown said max compliment bearings shouldn't go anywhere near a bike

I use GAP bearings on Ebay.

Cheap (less than £2 a bearing) fast and efficient service

Even have a section for mountain bike related bearings. Quick despatch too!

So next question; without me dismantling my Trance, any idea what I need? If not I'll either go down to the Giant shop on the way home tomorrow or give them a call.

Seconded on ak bearings - send them an email, they should know which ones will fit (there are a couple of specific sets on there for Giants)

Wheels and rotating parts then yes agree
Suspension pivots then disagree
two very different applications need different properties of bearingPosted 2 years ago # -
Every conceivable pricepoint here

MAX bearings are of debatable use in suspension, on the one hand they can handle the high loads/low speed aplication, on the other hand they have significanly lower ability to handle axial loads.
Try BETD, cost me £35 for 8 bearigns posted on my RM ets-x. Which is odd, seeing as the ets-x kit is £40 + postage from them............

tinas, what sort of bearings do they use? Quality or no name? AK has the 61901-2RS @ £1.74 noname, £7.79 FAG
Main bearings are a whopping £10 each from simply
Oh and are they MAX?Posted 2 years ago # -
FAG or enduro IIRC, no idea if they're full compliment or not, cant remember. Works out arround £4-£5 a bearing.
Like I said, it makes little or no differance in swingarms,

city seals in sheffield. did my trance for about 25 to 30 i think.

Cheers, and did you say you ordered the bearings seperatley for £35 but the kit is £40? or did they just under charge you for a kit?
I know sod all about this sort of thing but wouldn't linkage swingarms (like etsx and 4 bar) be fine for max but single pivot (which presumably would get some side loads) not such a good idea...?

the problem I had with BETD was that when I tried to add 2 sets of different size bearings to my basket it only gave me the option of next day special delivery at £7 not the normal post £2.50 option
I dont want to pay an extra £5 postage when I wont be in to sign for the package and it will be 48 hours before its back at the post depot for me to collect anyway so it will actually be longer before I get my mitts on them!!
The extra £5 also meant it was cheaper to get 4 6805 2RS Enduro MAX bearings from the CRC sale and 6 SKF 608 2RS's from GAP bearings (via ebay)
(BTW Atlaz, these are for a Commencal Meta not a Giant so dont go ordering those sizes for youself)Posted 2 years ago #
