   How is it that Radio 4 gets away with words such as $hit, ba5tard and pi$$ed off during the day, whereas if somebody on Radio 1 said it there would be public apologies and complaints to various bodies?

   I'm personally not bothered by the use of this language, but it just seems like double standards to me.

   Because R4 is for cleverer people who will understand the context in which the terms are used, and it will be perfectly valid, or something. Bit like them nudie films used to get on Channel 4 or BBC2. If they'd bunged 'em on BBC1 or ITV, then people wooduv been outraged, but on BBC2 and C4, they were 'artistic'.

   And besides, R1 is listened to mainly by youngsters, or people with not a lot about them, so it's not 'appropriate' to use such language. Bad enough with that imbecile Moyles spouting shite, without having swearings as well. Din't he get told off for swearing anyway, recently?

   There is only a watershed on TV...there isn't and never has been a watershed on the Radio

   I must be nobody, then Chapaking. Except you obviously do because you know the plays are godawful (I remember the days they were excellent). Lots of good stuff on R4 still though...

   I must be nobody, then Chapaking. Except you obviously do because you know the plays are godawful (I remember the days they were excellent). Lots of good stuff on R4 still though...

   By "nobody" I meant "not very many people", as you probably guessed.

   I only listen to it on long car journeys. I like the news and feature bits - but the plays are unbearable.

   Shame you can't program the radio to come back on when they finish.

   You can't knock Radio 4 you lot. Some quality stuff on there.
