Just looking for some help from those in the know…? Does anyone have any maps (or possibly know any guides) for Kitzbuehel and Kaprun? We have been to Kaprun before and did a few rides with Over The Edge but they appear to be no more.

If you can send me stuff, I may even be able to repay/bribe you with silly discounts instore…!!!!

    tourist info

If you click on the link above you can get brochures sent to you from the local tourist info – including a biking one. I have it at home and as far as I remember it was quite good. There are one or two guide books out there (Tiroler Unterland region) but they are only written in German as far as I know. For maps, Kompass maps cover the largest area and you can get ones with the "official" bike routes marked on, but the Alpenvereinmaps (OEAV) are a lot better quality – and half price if you are a member. Which might be worth considering as the insurance is quite good.

If you can't get hold of stuff in the UK feel free to contact me via email.

Leogang & Hinterglemm were the best riding venues when we stayed in Zell a couple of years ago.

You can buy a day lift pass that opens up some fantastic epic rides. There is/was a Kona centre at Leogang (we rented Kona Stabs for a great day in the bike park, and some hardtails for long day rides) and they provided all the route guides.

I would happily go there again, and save Kaprun for a dull afternoon's snowboarding in August.

A one-time forum regular DizinAustria ran Over the Edge, I think. Other posters might still know of Diz. If not, this looks a link to start you off.

Have a look at these guys, they're based in Kitz. I don't know anything about them, but they could be worth a punt

Stayed with Mountain Edge last year and would highly recommend. Rob who owns the company is a great guide and took us out on some excellent rides. Its a long season over there too, lifts are open May – Sept.

i spent a couple of half days riding with mountain edge at kitz. very enjoyable riding using chairlifts both sides of the valley. also been to kaprun where i rode without a guide and didn't really find anything great. did a day at leogang bike park which was o.k. but i preferred kitzbuhel trails which were generally steeper, rootier and more technical.

You can hire a selection of Ghost's range from http://www.bikeacademy.at/ and pick up maps etc. at their test centre in Kitzbuhel. I think they may do a few guided tours too, possibly led by the former coach of 2009 XC World Cup winner Lisi Osl.
