Is it possible to run an Alfine sprocket without the “plastic chain guard”, as I find that it gets full of crud and is hard to clean the sprocket probably.

Looking at the two sprockets I have the guard seems to be integral and thus can’t see how it will fit without the guard attached. Or am I simply being dumb (which is quite possible)

two of the alfine sprockets come with teh guard. nexus ones do not IIRC

Mine does not have a guard. I think its nexus sprockets I have but be aware they (some of???)are dished so might alter the chainline.
