Iso-propyl alcohol is recommended. Any problem to use acetone instead? (obviously not on the seals)

Propanone (acetone) is stronger organic solvent. I wouldn't and i'm an organic chemist.

IPA evaporates without leaving any sort of residue therefore does not contaminate the internals. I don't think acetone would evaporate completely.

acetone is nasty stuff, as kevonkona says it's in an entirely different league to IPA. Think of it as like the difference between vinegar and hydrochloric acid.

Where do you get Iso-propyl alcohol from? I tried the chemist this morning and the best they could offer was sergical spirit which i don't think is the same?

OK, 1 litre of IPA purchased. Cost CHF20 = 12 quid! Swiss prices….

I bought some on ebay. IIRC it was about a fiver for a litre.

I got some in Maplins, £12 for a litre

i keep cleaning things with acetone at workso far i have melted the mouse from my computer and taken the logos of my spd shoes!

when will i learn to try soapy water first!!

Solvents.
Worth bearing in mind that alcohol can cause stress cracking of titanium.
Stress corrosion cracking can occur in stainless steel exposed to chlorine, and brass exposed to ammonia.
Acetone is OK for cleaning titanium though.
