    Morning

Last night I was attemtpting to respoke my Alfine rear wheel.

I cannot get the lacing right. The spokes just appear to be about 10-20mm too long.

It is a two cross wheel- first I have built (could explain the issue!) All my three cross have been fine.

Spokes were measured by comparing to the orignals- I double checked last night. 286mm.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers,

    Paul

    Worked it out.

Wheel wasn’t laced 2 cross. It is three cross.

    I am a dumb ass.

Did you take all the old spokes out before starting to fit the new or are you just working your way round exchanging them one at a time?

Only time I’ve though the spokes were too long was when I didn’t twist the hub enough after putting the first round of spokes in but I’ve never done a 2 cross wheel.

[edit] that was my next question…

That wheel wasn’t built Stoner, it was woven.

I built a wheel once when pissed (actually I used to do that a lot without any issues usually). It looked spot on but felt a bit flexy when I rode it the next day. Noticed then that I hadn’t actually crossed any of the spokes…

    What could possibly go wrong?

    🙂

When I was at uni I built wheels for all my mates but the rule was that they paid in beer which I’d usually drink while building…
