Fast becoming my favourite part of the Lakes, never really busy, ridges aplenty (I do love a ridge ride!) and not far off the M6.

Parked at the bottom of Whinlatter pass on Saturday and up Coledale Beck, over Wandope and Whiteless Pike, slight diversion to do the lovely singletrack round the back of Rannerdale...

Lunch in Buttermere, then up Gasgale Gill and over Grisedale Pike.

Brilliant day in the hills.

Brill! I've only ever done Rigg Beck return from Whiteless but will do Rannerdale/Gasgale/Grisedale next time.

what are the descents like, much technical stuff? the only ride i've done in the area is down ullock pike from the top of skiddaw.
its very rare we get out of the south lakes with so much good stuff about.

Whiteless pike has a couple of big rocky outcrops that would be very tough to get a line through.

Grisedale pike is the winner though, but as TomB rightly said to me, you'd need your 'A game' for the first 200 metres off the summit.

That's a cracker of a ride - Whiteless Pike is my new favourite descent in the Lakes, having recently knocked Ullock off the top spot. @Bigfoot - It's all rideable with 3 techy sections, whereas Grizedale Pike is more full on at the top. I've seen guys cruise down it like they aren't trying, and while I've cleared it all in sections I've not done the whole thing in one hit yet. Definitely worth the trip up though if you like it steep and technical.

sounds spot on, will have to see if i can talk someone into doing it at the weekend but as we've got 2 high mountain rides already planned this week it might have to wait.
