The best frame is the one that fits you and the

awelch - Same size as you (exactly) and I have a 21" P7 and a 20" Inbred. Inbred is probably the better fit.

All above are ace but for me the Soul has it.

If I could afford a 2nd XC bike I'd go for a Duster, they look great and apparently have a shorter TT than most which would be perfect for me

Either the DMR Trailstar if you want a hardcore bike, i loved mine, could not only keep up with folk on full suss but usually overtake and leave them standing. With the added fun of a stiff back end.
For XC i'm really liking my Charge Duster, only had a it a coupleof months, but i'm impressed with so far.

That's what it looks like in the diagram - doesn't seen to fit with 'effective' unless you ar running no seatpost! I've just measured my 18" and from centre of headtube (where toptube meets) to centre of seatpost measured horizontally is exactly 610mm ie. the 'C' measurement but parallel to floor

_tom_: Gravitydropper makes 26,8 posts, check them out. Should be quite reliable product I think. I ride Trailstar mkIII with 130mm Marzocchi btw

Didn't realise that, they only seem to sell the 27.2 version on CRC etc. Gravity dropper probably wouldn't lower the post enough for anyone on a 16" frame though (I'm guessing), as the seat would need to be quite high anyway and GDs can only go down 4" I think?

do kona frames come up smaller? Aha, so kona's top tube measurement is effective top tube length whereas the on-one is a measure from centre head tube to centre seat tube I think?

Everyone should get an NS surge, then wire their doorbell up to a small hammer type device so it strikes the downtube.

There is only 13mm difference between the effective t/t length on the 456 and P7 and only 0.5 deg in the head angle with seattube angle identical. 456 is 2-300 gms heavier

The best fitting bike I ever had was a 21" orange p7 from 2005. I like the feel the bike under me, especially seeing as I'm going to be doing a long distance off-road tour on it... on the on one sizing chart the top tube comes up slightly shorter on the inbred than the 20" caldera that I currently own (I had an explosif before that). The caldera feels a bit short (top tube length wise) + also a little cramped leg wise. I've got long legs and arms! Anyway, I'll keep my eye out. Some good bikes here but they all have a lot of seat tube sticking out. However.... saying all this I tried a 21" voodoo bizango and that felt long at the time. I rode about 12000km on the 20" explosif but it had adjustable stem and big risers on it. I think for long distance a bigger frame is better, but I don't want to overdo it. I think the Orange p7 looks really nice, personally. The inbred is also awesome, especially if they were to do one size up...

I'm looking for a frame with rack eyelets at the dropout, doesn't have to have v-brake mounts thought. This rules out the charge duster, the cove handjob, the dekerf frames. blah blah.

Only thing I don't like about it is that the seatpost is a bit thin at 26.8mm, means you can't run a dropper on it if thats your kinda thing.

I'm 6'2" and I've got 34 inch legs so would the 20" inbred suffice? I found the 20" kona explosif a touch on the small side. I like bigger frames because I'm doing a long distance off-road tour and I want a bit more comfort.

I wanted the newer one with swopouts but found an older LT version for £100, feels great and if/when it breaks I'll probably get another haha. Had an older trailstar before this as well, white 100mm version!

Forgot to post the obligatory pic of mine! Here it is in jump mode (don't care what people say, I prefer longer forks for jumping), I've since added 2x9 and a front brake.

I'm riding a DMR Trailstar LT and it's great with 140mm Pikes on it Head angle may be a bit steep for proper downhill but I like it for XC and jumping with a bit of milder DH thrown in.

Rode it at Cannock last weekend and it was great, probably could've done with a slightly longer stem for climbing though, but that makes it feel less responsive for jumping so I haven't bothered to change it.

Only thing I don't like about it is that the seatpost is a bit thin at 26.8mm, means you can't run a dropper on it if thats your kinda thing.

Surely only 853 steel should be classed as pure steel, everything else is a poor imitation, imo

i disagree, plus how many complete 853 bikes are there

Just got a Genesis Altitude 20, 853 frame, complete bike £1100.

It is the best bike I've ever owned, but I have a sneaking suspicion that's because it's only a week old...... It may be a different story when it needs a bath.
