Hannah is out at the Sea Otter Classic in California, USA. It’s a four day festival of racing and a huge expo area. There are races for every type of bike, but there’s a strong leaning towards mountain biking, and if you want to see new products, prototypes, and unique bikes, it’s the place to be. Garbaggio bikes are made by Nick Kuszyk, a bike builder and artist based in New York. Check out the art here, it’s as wildly colourful as this bike’s owner’s shirt.
This shirt wearer is the very happy Brian Doll, with his Garbaggio Nutmegger. He told Nick that he wanted a party bike ‘that could be carried about on trails that only exist in your heart’.
To make sure it can be carried around, it has a portage handle.
For when you’re not carrying it around, it has handmade Nitto bars.
Paul Klampers sort out the stopping for when you want to carry it again.
Despite the retro looks, it is a bike for riding trails, with a mountain bike drivetrain (with White Industries cranks and chainring) and boost spacing.
As well as being a bike for riding trails that only exist in your heart, he said he wanted a bike that would forgive him as he made bad decisions. We think we might enjoy riding with Brian.
There is another matching bike that has ‘Beard’ on it. They’re so named because their respective owners had a beard, and not a beard. We’re not sure if Brian has picked up the wrong bike, or just needs a shave.
