Saddle up for the Double Downs to support our wounded

The South Downs National Park will play host to Walking With The Wounded’s latest challenge on Saturday 1st September 2018: The Double Downs.

Ah, the Downs.

This one-day, 64-mile off-road cycling challenge promises to be a rewarding day out as cyclists take on the famous chalk hills from Winchester to Queen Elizabeth II Country Park alongside inspirational wounded servicemen and women – including some who have been part of the charity’s expedition teams to the North Pole, South Pole and Everest. The first leg will see the riders reach Beacon Hill before doubling down and making the return leg back to the start.
Riders taking on the Double Downs challenge will raise funds to support the UK’s most at-risk veterans, suffering from physical, mental and social challenges, to reintegrate into society and lead productive and fulfilling lives.
And ups…

WWTW’s Ambassador, Jaco van Gass – current British Para Cycling Champion – will be riding the Double Downs.
Jaco – not on the route here. We also hope he’s not riding that bike.

“As an Ambassador for WWTW, I’m always keen to support events to help raise funds to support my fellow veterans back to the workplace. The Double Downs promises to be a tough, but fun, day out on the bike in the wonderful setting of the South Downs National Park. I hope that many people are inspired to join me on this ride. Remember, two riders raising £250 each will fund one veteran through a 12-session course of Head Start, WWTW’s Mental Health Programme. See you on September 1st in Winchester!”

It costs just £50 to enter the Double Downs. There is a fundraising target of £250 per rider, with a JustGiving page dedicated to the event (details when purchasing tickets).
Entry to the Double Downs includes:
o Hot Breakfast including coffee/tea;
o Rider support throughout the event;
o Feed stations on the route;
o Marshall support at key junctions;
o Post-ride Hog Roast BBQ (vege options also).
Bring a buddy, raise £250 each, to put 1 wounded veteran through WWTW’s Head Start Mental Health Programme.
Get involved! Ride in support of our wounded veterans.
Fill those empty trails

Walking With The Wounded Event Manager Andy Sloan said: “This is a fantastic new challenge for fundraisers to show their support for the men and women who served their country and have endured far more serious ups and downs. It’s going to be a tough, but immensely rewarding and uplifting, event for everyone taking part and feature the camaraderie we pride ourself on for WWTW events.”
