Back in October we lost our deputy editor, Jenn Hill to cancer. She was 37.
Before she died she told us about the amazing work that Cancer Research UK and Macmillan Cancer Support had done to help and support her through her final time and she asked us to help.
Through a combination of crowdfunding and limited edition issue 100 merchandise sales Grit and Singletrack magazine readers have raised a final total of £16,106 to be shared equally between both charities and today representatives of Cancer Research UK and Macmillan Cancer Support came to the Grit/Singletrack HQ office for the official money handover.
The crowdfunding campaign offered readers the chance to take a stake in the original Jo Burt cover artwork that we used for our issue 100 cover. The artwork will be mounted and framed along with the names of everyone who contributed to the painting. The final artwork will be available to view at our office in Todmorden and will make guest appearances at key events through the year and at the premises of one of the two ‘corporate’ sponsors, Garage Bikes.
The mounting and framing will be competed by the end of January 2016.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to the campaign. There are still some issue 100 charity mugs available in our shop here. Proceeds from the sale of the mugs will now be sent to St. Gemma’s Hospice, Leeds, where Jenn spent her final few days with close friends and family.
