And you thought Neils and Bart were retired from competition? Well, technically they are, but that’s not stopping them from kitting up for a few laps around the lake at the Zilvermeer park near Mol in Belgium.
The annual Boonen & Friends is a cyclocross event that sees many ‘cross stars joined by some of the top road riders to race and raise money for charity. Along with Albert and Wellens, former road champion Michał Kwiatkowski will put his ‘cross skills to the test in the sand this year.
Boonen & Friends will be held on 28 November, and proceeds from the event will be donated to two Belgian organizations. VZW Bijs is dedicated to helping house children with mental and motor impairments, while Move to Improve helps diagnose, and care for, children with neuro-motor development issues.
While the competition will definitely be exciting, the spirit of the event is more relaxed than your usual top ‘cross and road races. We’re still waiting on word on whether or not Tommeke will compete this year, as he’s still coming back from a fractured skull suffered in a crash in Abu Dhabi earlier this year, but we’ll keep you posted.
