Get Yer Turbo On With Tacx

Turbo trainers have typically been seen as the sole preserve of the disconcertingly fit – or masochistic – but they can have a place in the everyday gravelista’s dungeon garage. If you’re ill, perhaps, or it’s really chucking it down – or there’s a really good movie on, but you really need to vent some exercise spleen. But anyway, some of you might find turbos interesting. And as if my magic, I’m here to tell you that tech savvy Tacx have released a new trainer. Here it is, look!

According to Tacx, the NEO Smart is claimed to be “the most powerful, intelligent and silent trainer to date,” and with 32 Neodymium magnets (one of those ‘“rare earth” ones) that rotate around 30 coils, the question of power is most likely answered. At least if you’re of a technical frame of mind. But those magnets will certainly make it quiet. Your dungeon will resound to naught but your pants of exertion.

The NEO is part of Tacx Smart series, as you probably guessed- which means this techy little trainer features ANT+ and Bluetooth Smart which allows it to provide that all-important data as well as controlling the resistance using a smartphone.

According to the developers, it’s capable of generating 2200W which would allow it to provide enough torque when simulating those slow, gruelling hill climbs.
