Your all-time-favourite pop artist
-
For me, the thin white Duke, D Bowie.
He’s such a legend, I’ll even forgive him the post – 80s embarrassments.
I am too young to have witnessed the Stones/Who/Beatles in their heydays but suspect they might be up there otherwise. Many others merit a mention, not least Abba, Blur, U2…
Yours?
Posted 7 years agodepends how you define “pop” I wouldn’t classify the who or the stones as pop.
Mine would probably be madness, although I don’t listen to them much nowadays.
Posted 7 years agoOops, wrong sort of Pop artist.
Posted 7 years agoFreddie Mercury, he had talent and presence.
Posted 7 years agoThe Clash

Or Lou ReedMichael Jackson prolly.

Thriller (as an album) is a masterpiece – with Billie Jean as my favourite ever song for dancin’.

Posted 7 years agoQuite a number have been on my list over the years, but if asked at this moment in time, I’d have to say Muse as despite whatever my musical meanderings are, I keep coming back to them.
Posted 7 years agoFrankie Goes To Hollywood
Duran Duran

BlondieI don’t do pop.
My vote is the legendary Van Morrison.
(prepares for some flak)
Posted 7 years agoMichael Jackson for me too!
I think the Stones and Who were definitely pop acts.
Posted 7 years agoJacko. Although it all went a bit wrong after Bad, that & Thriller were classics.
Posted 7 years agoI don’t do pop
Why is it somehow beneath you? Beatles were a pop band as were the Beach Boys and 1000’s of other bands and singers that did fantastic tunes.
Posted 7 years agoI don’t do pop.
My vote is the legendary Van Morrison.
Van Morrison, however, is less blinkered and does do pop, thankfully
Posted 7 years agoPet Shop Boys
Erasure
Abba
Duran DuranWe all have quite obviously different definitions of what ‘Pop’ is going by some of the suggestions.
Posted 7 years agoI go by the University Challenge definition of “Popular Music” which seems to be anything that isn’t “Classical” 🙂
Posted 7 years agoare the Jackson comments sarcasm ..please say it is so.
Posted 7 years agoIf we are talking ‘pop’ as opposed to ‘rock’ then it has to be Blondie. MJ, The Carpenters and Abba I respect as purveyors of beautifully crafted pop, but I wouldn’t say that I liked them particularly.

Why? What’s your suggestion grumpy-guts?
