Just noticed my XTR rear derailleur is chewing the cable outer and don't know what to do. The cable snapped last year and I just replaced with the same length outer. The outer has a plastic cap which has been completely destroyed. Checking the assembly instructions there is mention of an 'accessory' aluminium cap which should be used instead of sus bikes… but taking an aluminimu cap off an old cable and it doesn't slot into the rear mech (as there isn't a barrel adjust at the rear mech).

So anyone else solved this problem out there? Is the original cable outer just too short and is entering at too tight an angle or is the 'accessory' cap vital?
