They started to become technical a few years ago that’s why a lot of modern xc bikes are now 120mm travel. That’s also why some of the Specialized riders were racing the Epic Evo last year as it was more capable on some of the courses than the standard Epic.

The weather was so bad yesterday and 3 degree temp why they left the men’s race as 7 laps the same as the women’s. Even on the men’s podium you could see their teeth chattering as they were still cold.

As someone else said; looked like Wales in the winter. Looked awful. There was a Spanish rider at the end who clearly wasn’t used to it, and looked like he was suffering badly

Any rerun or highlights videos anywhere? Only one I’ve seen was Puck Pieterse’s course preview.

Me too, looked a brutal race. I can only find course previews too.

Tiz on the site that probably shouldn’t be named or linked to here…

So we have Nove Mesto in two weeks (assuming there is no coverage of the Southern XC).  Anyone want to take  a punt at the top 3 in the elite men/women XCO?

    Found it.

I’ll admit as a race it wasn’t the most exciting to watch nothing like the first couple of rounds in Brazil but being the European champs some top International racers wasn’t there even some of the Euro top racers also missed it.

Due to the weather I think it was just a matter of survival to the end.

Watched it last night. Why isn’t the site its on to be named? Seems petty really. However..

I noticed that quite a few riders that would have been running SRAM Transmission were using cable stuff. Wonder if its taking the risk out of it being so wet?

Great race from Charlie Aldridge. Also loved Tom Pidcock comment about the speed of the fist lap “Did any one tell them it was an xco race and not a xcc”

Pidcock follows up winning the Amstel Gold race on the road by winning the Nove Mesto XCO World Cup; being able to do that is pretty special; only MvdP has done that (back in 2019)

And an excellent 4th for Charlie, meaning two Brits in the top 4……Not that long ago a top 10-15 would be good.

And without doing the maths, it looks like GB will get 2 places in the men’s Olympic MTB race…..

Enjoyed the elite mens race today. I’d like to give that course a go, looks fun.

    Just read the above comment.

Isn’t the mechanical sram gears lighter than their electric counterpart and also quicker to shift?

Wonder what was going on with Pidock’s fork he seemed to fiddle about with a bit.

It’ll be the controls for his front wheel motor 🫣

I think Pidcock runs the fully electronic compression control option whereas Prevot runs old-school cable operated manual lock-outs. Maybe the tech was playing up a bit?
