… When threads are closed to add a brief note explaining why? I mean no criticism, you understand, and thread closures are thankfully rare, but it’s sometimes quite baffling as to why a topic shouldn’t be discussed. I appreciate this may not slways be possible, but even just a “This is going to turn into a shitshow and we don’t have time to police it” would be appreciated. Thanks if you can! 🙂

Appreciate volunteer mods who have real lives to live too, taking the easier route of closing a thread rather than having to continualy monitor it.

But if this is about the Manchester airport one, I’ve got a question/point for the thread which I think is not on the same tangent as the contentious posts. But that will now go undiscussed.

When I was a moderator I always tried to.

The challenge here however is that as soon as you provide a reason for closing a thread a second thread will spontaneously spring into existence, often created by the OP of the first one, debating why you’re wrong to close it.  Then bans have to be handed out and moderators are sad.

we don’t have time to police it

Maybe they do – it’s the STW equivalent of kicking the thread in the head 😀

    Mod brutality!

“This is going to turn into a shitshow and we don’t have time to police it”

For every single one, I presume.

Oops- didnt see this. Just popped the same question into the ‘any issues’ thread

[MOD] closing this thread as we’ve reopened the one in question. Play nice.
