Fitting a new rangemaster cooker at the moment. Had the gas chap round who sorted out the supply bayonet.

The manual for the cooker was very specific about where and how the gas pipe should be and hang, but not so about the leccy.

Are there any best practices for how the electric cable should run/hang from a wall connector block to the cooker? If I leave enough length for it to stay attached when pulled out, then it’ll lie on the floor when pushed back in. Is that the norm?

As long as the cable is up to spec I don’t see why not..the major concern would be the danger of snagging or kinking when you push it back.

Optimally it should be wired in a flexible cable that allows it to be pulled out for cleaning. However, it is acceptable for it to be wired in twin and earth in circumstances where it is not frequently needing to be moved. The cable should be long enough to enable you to safely access the back of the cooker. 3 to 4 meters would be fine. Voltage drop is unlikely to be of any issue.
Cable size is more critical. Cable should be sized such that the load is less than the cable current carrying capacity and the cable capacity is greater than the rating of the mcb in the consumer unit. If the mcb is 32a then use 4mm twin and earth as a minimum. Post the rating of the cooker and I can advise better.

As stated above you want the cable to be long enough for the ccoker to be pulled out from the wall so you can get in and work on the rear of the cooker!

Thanks. Cooker manual says max power draw is 3.6kW. So 16 to 17amps by my reckoning.

Is running off a 32A rcd which previously ran a double wall oven thing. I think my existing is OK.

I think I’ll cut a space in the end panel next to the cooker and have the wire be able to be pulled out the way under the unit at the side. Stops it getting pinched.

500 Metres of Bellwire should be fine. 🙂

16A cooker; consider lower rated over-current protection, 20A circuit breaker maybe?

You could use a 20A mcb which would allow you to use 2.5mm cables which would be easier to fit into the connectors in the cooker. MCBs are there to protect the fixed wiring rather than the device. If the device requires protection it should have its own internal fuse.
