depends if you ride anywhere with trees. your knuckles won't like you if you do.

I've got some Atlas bars in purple. They seem to provide a bit more control and I find them more comfortable too. I was originally going to trim down from the enormous 785mm but I've got used to this length and really like it.

I've knocked one fencepost so far and collected a few nettles on each side….

was happy with 685's, then i tried 750's.

wot Jambo said – I rode a bit of trail the other day that I was having great difficulty getting the bars between trees at 665 wide. 700+ simply would not have fitted between the trees

I went up to 710mm and just found it a wee bit too wide, then I'm built like a scaffold pipe. Never had any bother with the width of them, it just didn't fit me. Wider isn't always better.

Got uncut Sunline bars on the Alpine and the Soul. Fine for 99% of what I do. Have had the odd tree interface in the past but have now got very good at judging what they will fit through!!

710 was a good jump from 600, but i want wider and lower now. and this is on a 100mm hardtail with fairly steep head angle 😀

I have Titec Helbent Prolights, uncut, I rate them and got them cheap.

Love my Atlas FR at 785 for trail riding and freeride. Anything else feels too narrow now. Really notice the stability at speed of a wider bar

I've Spank 777's (guess how wide they are) on my 5 spot and Easton EA70's (680mm) on my hardtail and I'm not sure about which I prefer.

I ride the hardtail and they feel great and then I ride the FS and they feel very wide but after a while the wider bars feel great……confused…..me too

    Funn Fat Boy 750mm, here

Just remember that wide bars whilst helping make the bike more stable at speed by helping make the front track better, they slow the steering down and drop your centre of gravity. The latter means it is easier to go over the bars if you have a steep head angle when you point it downhill.
The ability to go over the bars easy means that on steep head angle bikes, e.g. Jump, 4X bikes riders use mid or higher rise bars, as this means your centre of gravity is not dropped as much and you don't eat dirt as much.

Also bar width is a personal thing but if you have narrow shoulders then wide bars will spread you out much more than someone with wide shoulders and as a result the steering will be much much slower.

I've got 710mm Fat Boys on my Trance X, feels great, doesn't feel wide at all, until you get on something else and feel really squashed up.

I had some 710 ones. With bar ends (the little cane creek ones 😳 😉 ) they're a liability in foliage and I also hit several trees/fenceposts/gateposts before I cut em down to maybe 670 or so. Still prob too wide for where I ride but they did feel nice at full width on more open trails.

On the contrary Dirtynap, I went from 680 x 35mm to 680 x 19mm to 720 X 35mm and my bike is riding better than ever now.
The biggest difference is that now the bars are wider, I can get lower on the climbs, but I'm not sacrificing control on the descents. because i have a lower C.O.G and more leverage.

I stll run 680's on the HT because that has always "felt right". Now My FS bike feels "right" just like my HT.
