Whyte 901 or ….

Looking to get back into riding after the arrival of my daughter. Sold my Orbea Rise the end of last year as I no longer have the time for big rides.

Now I’m looking for a hardtail for local loops in the woods, canals and connecting roads. Something I can have a little play on the small jumps in the woods, but also not too heavy and over biked for quick local blast which will involve canals and road sections.

I see the Whyte 901 on offer for £1099 at Leisure Lakes. Anything else I should consider? Was hoping to stay under £1k in an ideal world.

Bump, little quieter on here than I remember

I have the Whyte 905 which I purchased recently from their outlet store. Only used it a few times, but I think it’s great. I got it for a similar price to the 901 you are looking at it and after a bit of research I considered it was good value for money. I previously had an 805 which I also really liked and used for everything from big XC rides in the hills, trail centres and commuting.

Also meant to say it feels nice and light and I think it strikes a good balance between good at climbing and v capable downhill (better than me at least!). I’ve not owned a full suspension bike though as have always preferred hardtails so I might be slightly biased…

Also look at the previous model orbea laufey. Some good deals around your budget if you prefer big wheels.

I think the whyte 90 series are really good. I’d probably chuck on a 2.6 rear as it’s noticeably better at rolling but otherwise they’re sorted bikes for the money. I’d buy one again (had a 905 for several years). Sounds ideal for your use, quite playful and will slow you to ride whatever you want whilst being fine for the more sedate stuff

I’ve also got the 905, bought about 12 month ago and would recomend all day long.

I have a friend who has the prevous version of the 901 the spec seems virtually identical and it was his that leant me towards getting my 905.
