I’m not convinced that it’s a bin slamming rating. Our bins are virtually impossible to slam and make a significant noise as the lids are very light, large (a lot of wind resistance) and also high up so purchase and downward force is very much dependent on upper body strength. Also, there is a ten decibel difference between two of our bins which is quite a lot as I believe it works on a logarithmic scale so is a huge difference but not detectable by the human (my!) ear.

My sympathies to your neighbours, who apparently live next door to someone that spends their free time repeatedly slamming bin lids. 😉

I’m not convinced that it’s a bin slamming rating.

It’s literally in the EU directive on the previous page, including how the lid-drop tests are performed.  The rating will be whichever is the highest of both lid noise and wheel noise.

Ever since the dustmen have been woke and follow EU directives, none of them have farted through the keyhole and the cat is still healthy.

@cougar you’re making the assumption that by asking a question on STW that the correct or accurate answer is the required response, where’s the endless time wasting fun to be had in that? We all have our own theories and answers that we believe are “correct”, I think that I’ll carry on with my scattergun approach to the truth and only use it if it suits my mood on the day! I’d be a bit worried that legislation was quoted so quickly in reply, where’s the fun in that? Meanwhile, if  I accept for now that the legislation refers to bin slamming with incriminating myself in any libel action, does it take account of the contents, and depth of contents of the bin? My empty green bin takes on a progressively deeper tone the more full it is, if it’s mostly grass clippings. Do decibels measure high pitched noises or low pitch or in the bin world is it an average?

OK.  How about “username checks out”?

“Margaret…Margaret…tell the kids to come inside, next door’s slamming the bins with progressively larger amounts of green waste inside them again!”

@politecameraaction I think that you have the impression that I’m an uncaring bin lid banger. I’m retired so can conduct my “research”  whilst others are at work, I’m usually the one who brings neighbour’s bins up as they somehow manage to negotiate their various vehicles past the entrance of our shared drive. I think I’m providing a useful insight, especially on the day before the election as dustbin collections are quite high up in people’s priorities along with potholes and 20mph limits. Apparently. @cougar I don’t understand the username bit!
