And why’s it not been brought back?

Everyone always says how Red Bull is so determined to maximize the tv appeal for downhill with big jumps etc. 4X would make some great watching for your average punter I reckon

Is there just not enough money and riders in the sport?

Possibly not enough new riders were going into it, there arent many 4x tracks left to practice on. And fashion.

Seems a lot easier to run too. All you need is a sloping field and build a few jumps not the investment of dh required

I always liked the spectacle but too much chance for my taste, most times when I watched a race at least one major contender got taken out by some other random, and one of the finals ended when the leader and second place tangled and 3rd place dude just pretty much rolled down the hill.

Apparently the tracks are expensive, just because they have to be so big? And they tend not to get a lot of use outside of races.

You need to have lots of short races, with riders dropping their worst results. For example, best three of five. Sudden death style events make things exciting due to the unpredictability, but they suck if you're hoping to find the best athlete.

If I had to guess, this would be my answer.

Pretty sure chicksands 4x races and the uk series that visits them are still very popular pre covid with enough serious riders.

Used to love 4X especially when you see moves like this being pulled off!

I don't think it's less popular or has died. It's just other disciplines have become more public.

I guess mostly it's just that it doesn't sell bikes like DH or Enduro

BC obviously don't give a flying about it as it's not Olympic event so its partially escaped the cancer that is BC

Sadly from what I've seen the organisers are just a bunch of tossers.
In what world is it acceptable to put a chair hidden on the landing of a big gap to prevent the inconvenience of other riders for example?
