-2c . I cycled my mountain bike into work to help with dodgy road conditions. However, my dropper post wouldn’t work (wouldn’t stay up). It’s not the most comfortable way to cycle with your knees touching your chin.
I assumed the cold had something to do with it as it was fine on the journey home.
Disappointed that Mert beats me given I live close to the station with the coldest Met office observation from last night……….minus 11 at mine this morning.
Yeah, yeah dry cold but I can assure you that it’s still brisk at these kind of temps. Enough that Sweajnr did complain on his 5 minute walk to school and sufficiently cold that they won’t be getting any outside time today/ Balmy compared to the -37C (windchill of -50) this time last week which was totally nuts even by local standards.
Far from the winner here, south east, a balmy -1C this morning! Coldest was Tuesday, -3C.
It’s cold enough. Can’t regulate body/skin/clothing temperature. Internally get warm, externality get cold, push the pedals to warm up then get sweaty… And cold.
Temps going back up to 11C next week looking at forecast.
Walked the dog in -5C this morning as the sun came up. Rode the bike in a balmy -1.5c to collect the car this evening as the temp falls further. Tomorrow I shall commute by folder to Elizabeth Line station, then ride in the velodrome. The ONLY indoor cycling I enjoy. I like the dry cold. 3C and damp is the worst weather by far.
And sealskinz gloves with Icebreaker merino inserts. Fine in -5C when I rode the club ride on Tuesday night.
I was pushing the gravel bike over a frozen canal bridge last night on way home from work and could see a lad in his 20’s on an mtb riding up the other side, I thought he’s doing well then he got out of saddle towards the top his rear wheel spun and nuts/stem became one.
-3 this morning and -1 one the way home – went off road on the way home took my first “Off “of the year on some black ice into the dirt. Was fun though dry trails on the cross bike.
-7c near Dorchester (Dorset) this morning (Friday). Dropped the car off in town for MOT/Service then cycled home off road on the local tracks which were great frozen solid, a bit different to a couple of weeks ago when it was a slog thru many inches of gloopy mud. Got some nice pics of frosty landscapes.
Don’t know about commute but my hands were throbbing from deicing Mrs g-d’s car and checking it over before a long trip.
I did see a former colleague posting pictures of his naturally formed slush puppy in a water bottle on (I assume) the South Downs this morning. Full blown ice in the bottle lid.
Mind you the pace he rides it was probably mostly wind chill. Like Speedy Gonzales in bicycle form (but with better manners).
