  • Wheel out of true – how bad before new rim needed?

Took buckled front wheel (Hope plus DT swiss 2.4) to LBS and informed that “too far gone” and new rim required. TBH did not look too bad to me and have never trued a wheel myself so don’t know stresses involved. Wheel seemed “squashed” front to back rather than side to side. Should I go for second opinion as new rim plus fitting give or take is same as new wheel?

The shop is right, a wheel that is out true vertically or squashed as you said, is beyond truing.
If it ain’t too bad ride it, otherwise replacement time.
