I was riding deep in the woods when I saw a buzzard on the ground. It flew away as I approached to reveal this :

I don't think the buzzard killed it. I suspected a Baby Robin but I am not sure if it would have the strength to snap through the spine. Possible a gang of angry squirrels?

Please can someone answer before I go for my next night ride.

was this in Lordswood?
there's been a couple of posts about this over the last week or so
sounded like it's been nibbled at over the past week.
various claims - most credible sounds like poachers.

All you need to remember is that the same number of animals die as are born. The surprise is that we see so few stiffs.

An enormous proportion of the animal kingdom (and fungi) are just there to dispose of carrion.

I reckon it was probably a dog attack or natural causes followed by the carrion feeders doing their stuff.

Poachers is unlikely as the rear haunches are the bit that they would first take.

Most dead animal carcasses are random deaths that are subsequently polished off by the large number of animals that will eat carrion, I reckon.

My brother-in-law killed a deer this week by hitting it with his road bike at 25mph. Thankfully, he came off better than the deer.

I saw something weird recently too. Right in the middle of this pic [url= http://evillittlegoat.co.uk/IMG_0381.JP G" target="_blank">http://evillittlegoat.co.uk/IMG_0381.JP G"/> [/url]

About 3 feet high id say, the brown bit is its face, sticky up ears. Ran off like a big cat. Any ideas?

That was my first thought too, an albino kangaroo. A very, very lost kangaroo.

an albino kangaroo.

It looks like it's carrying a large sack.. maybe it works for Santa Claus.. which would mean that it was very very late as well.. 🙂

'What kills and eats Deer in the UK?'

Probably the gamey we met on Mamore Estate last year, nicely armed with a Tikka .308 Win. Or a fella I knew who had a Steyr Mannlicher .243 & did a bit of stalking ( he definately ate what he shot)

Reckon that's a wallaby. Seen a dead one beside the road (somewhere in Notts I think).

The buzzard certainly couldn't have killed it, they're too bloody lazy for a start. They either scavenge for road kill or other dead animals, like crows and ravens do, or they go after small mammals, or worms. I've often seen buzzards in fields hunting worms. Hardly seemly behaviour for a large bird of prey if you ask me...

Loads of 'em on Dunstable and Whipsnade Downs that escaped from the zoo (or there were when I was a nipper growing up there).

They mean the fuzzy picture. Anyway, there's definitely escaped wallabies in the UK wild as I've seen them up in the Lakes. Some animals just manage to make do anywhere, a bit like the bloody parakeets around here (thousands of the little bastards).

The nearest zoo is a good 70 miles away. I spotted it in a fairly remote part of Gortin Forest in northern ireland. If it is a big cat thats not good, thats where I go for my solo night rides 😯

Sorry for the thread highjack WorldClassAccident
