  • What front tire (sorry) for Dyfi bike park?

    Hi,

I’ve been using a pair of specialised butcher blck diamonds in 2.6 for 5 years and been very happy. One bit the dust last year so I’m looking for a front for a trip to the Dyfi this month.

I’m unlikely to get more than 5 uplift days a year this year and next. Most of the time I can’t be bothered paddling dh worthy tires about.

In the shed- 2.4 shorty in super sticky. If it rains that will be getting fitted.

    Or

specialised butcher grid gravity in 2.6

Specialized cannibal grid gravity in 2.4

Probably not the shorty – the Butcher would be fine. Not used a Cannibal but given that should be the stickiest T9 compound I’d use that I think.

None of the reds are muddy / slippery at all – it’s mostly rock / hardpack.

Some of the blacks (muddy berms) may get a bit muddy but even though it was raining whilst there, grip wasn’t an issue due to mud.

I think slab track and other tracks with sheer slabs are the biggest grip challenge and not much sticks to those. I was on a Wild Enduro front (magi x) / Kryptotal Fr on the rear (DH/ Supersoft). I think most stuff will grip though – just it’s hard on tyres.

I had an enduro casing Conti Xynotal on the back the day before the bike park in the Forest round the Climach X with off piste sections thrown in – completely killed the side wall of the Conti sadly (it was only a few rides old). Slashed it on a sharp rock as I landed from a bit I decided to send to avoid a load of rocks.

    Thanks!

    I’ve gone for the butcher.

I’ve been before, but it was bone dry, blue sky and perfect weather. I would be gobsmacked to get that again. Delighted but gobsmacked.

It’s worth noting dyfi tends to smash punctures into any tyre that’s being ridden, so I’d fit the most heavy duty thing I have regardless of tread
