Nope it’s quite clear it’s disabled badge holders only, 24/7, between Mon to Fri 8am to 6pm additional restrictions apply to blue badge holders limiting them a max of 3 hours, at other times it’s still blue badge holders only but there are no restrictions on duration or but you can’t return within 2 hours. It’s very badly worded.

    It really is.

    it’s quite clear

    It really isn’t.

    Not clear at all.

Think we agree it’s disabled badge holders only 24/7

Between Mon-Fri 8am-6pm there are no restrictions.

At any other time it’s restricted to 3 hours and no return allowed within 2 hours.

    Maybe?

    @kormoran

There are signs I’m sure in Edinburgh that have very similar signs but replace blue badge only with permit holders only

Yeah, I know the ones you mean.

    Permit Holders Only

    1pm – 3pm

So perhaps in the OPs case it’s because all times are covered that the Disabled Badge Holder Only applies all the time?

    If it just said

    Disabled Badge Holders Only

    Mon – Fri

    8am – 6pm

Then it would only apply at the certain times

This is the sign equivalent of eats, shoots and leaves.

Very unlikely to find a parking warden after 6 in Bristol IME. I would park there. Take photos of the sign and suggest my consulting services to the council if they decided to give me a ticket.

    It’s Schrodinger’s parking bay

It reminds me of those optical illusion posters that pop in and out, just when you see the illusion it pops the other way and you can’t unsee it. Until you can again

If someone handed me something as badly worded as that I’d be asking them very politely to take it away and sort it out.

Take the layout away and read the text sequentially it could break in a number of places but this is really the only one that seems to work to my mind.

    Disabled badge holders only Mon-Fri 8am – 6pm

This is very clear during that time the disabled badge restrictions apply

3 hours at any other time

this second bit needs to belong to something and since there’s no earlier restrictions on length of stay it has to either mean:

Disabled badge holders can only park for 3 hours outside the working day – that seems an odd rule to me without some specific factor to drive a need for that restriction.

    OR

Demand for disabled spaces is lower at that time and the intention is others can then make use of the spaces but not for more than 3 hours.

Even that seems a bit odd unless it’s trying to prevent overnight parking.  IMO the second one is the right one.

Really not adding anything. But in the old days my grandparents used to have to put their arrival time on the little clock on the badge. Is that still a thing? Was it ever a thing am I misremembering?

Also; helping your uncle jack off a horse.

I actually had to read it carefully a few times even though I make these kinds of signs for a living. It’s very ambiguous and I suspect it’s been made by someone who’s gone rogue as I’ve never seen one worded like this before. 🙂

Given the way Star Wars has been going I expect this will be the next baddie in a Disney+ series.

Disc Parking is still a thing.  Rawtenstall has free parking but you’ve to put a card in the window showing your arrival time.  Accrington flirted with the same scheme, then realised that adding barriers to parking in an already near-dead centre did no-one any favours.

Parking discs still very much a thing in North Yorkshire.  My only ever parking ticket was a result of me incorrectly setting my arrival time correctly (brain fart 12/24hr clock).

    It really isn’t.

    It’s bloody clear.

Disabled badge parking only. Not a badge holder, then you can’t park here. Stop reading. Stop finding excuses to use the disabled parking.

Badge holders can park as long as they want in the day period specified.

Outside that period, badge holders can only park for 3 hours, and can’t return within 2 hours.

Eh?  Was that ever the intention?

    Again,

If it was “bloody clear” then we wouldn’t be on page 2 and counting with multiple interpretations of the same thing, even allowing for people who are just opinionated but wrong (hiya!).  You may well be correct in your interpretation, but it is far from clear.

My theory is that there’s a very puritanical councillor who thinks that it’s fine for disabled people to park there when they’re doing an honest day’s work, but I don’t want them going out and enjoying themselves on weekends and evenings.

And no, I don’t park there, I park in the Specialized shop car park about 300 metres away.

No, that’s the bit we don’t agree on!

My interpretation is that it is disabled parking ONLY from 9 to 5pm
Outside of these hours it is a free for all but within the other conditions stipulated (3 hours max and no return)

In Abergavenny we have similar zones for resident permits only from 9-5 but without any additional constraints. If it was always  just for residents then there would be no need for the time contraints to be noted.

Bloody disabled. Think they can park anywhere eh!

Took my mum out for her birthday, she hands me a disabled sign thing, says just park on the double yellows and stick this in the window! I punched her straight in the gob.
