Already have 2 waterproofs. An endura packable one that fits into a jersey pocket which it good if caught in winter rain, and good as a windproof on cold days. And a dirtlej mtb jacket thats great on trails with a large hood. It’s good for all but summer.

Usually avoid wet rides but beggining to give in so looking for a summer waterproof. What would you recommend?

Breathable with a bit of stretch
    Non flappy. Nothing too baggy.

I think “summer waterproof” and “light pack able waterproof” are effectively the same thing.

You’ll boil in the summer in almost any waterproof, I do like a waterproof gilet as a sort of compromise

A windproof is the answer most of the time in the summer, especially if it’s kept freshly proofed. And when it’s really wet or wet and cold, then the packable waterproof comes out.

A packable windproof is a much nicer thing to wear in the summer than using a packable waterproof – there’s a vast difference in breathability.

    Keela Saxon.

Manages to balance waterproof, breathable and lightweight into a package that works for me.  Decent price, direct sales at £110 delivered.

Plus, made in the UK by a company that understands living wages and has a garment repair service.

It’s bulky for just in case, but otherwise Endura MT500 and open all the gill vents and pit zips.

I’d just plump for a waterproof gilet.

So long as you keep your torso dry and stop water dribbling down your waist…nothing worse.

If it’s warm enough, you won’t mind the rain running down your arms.

Some waterproofs have detachable sleeves. Worth the extra.

I have an MT500 and whilst the pit vents are huge and work well, the jacket is still just too much for warm days. And the space it takes up in a pack is ridiculous tbh

    I like my gore lupra.

Review: Gore Lupra mountain bike jacket is perfect in it’s own special way

It’s not fully waterproof, but does fine in everything except a torrential downpour or 3h of persistent rain.

    Breathable tick

    Non flappy. Tick

Galibier Courcheval is extremely good and my go to.

Wore mine a lot on a recent cycle tour through the Highlands. Had many days where it was bordering between rain and dreich so just put it on over a t-shirt.

Big pit zips and waterproof in a full-on downpour. Was so impressed with mine that I bought one for my son too.  Only downside is that it is not very packable – doesn’t fit in a pocket or hip bag.

Keela Saxon is also good but I’d not want to wear it next to my skin. Is my go-to if rain is forecast and I want something I can carry in a hip-bag.

Most local rides I just shove a Ron Hill pertex windproof jacket in my pocket.

I have a 7Mesh Resistance jacket that I think is brilliant – Gore Windstopper fabric so not fully waterproof but it slows down getting wet, it’s light + breathable and the fit is excellent. Good as a wind or shower proof, fine in heavier rain as long as it’s not cold.
