I have Android 8 on my phone and 11 on my tablet and I don't plan on replacing the devices until they die. I haven't been able to stay logged into STW on either for months. I tried reporting the issue via your subs team when I renewed my sub but I didn't receive any follow-up, other than the initial "we'll look into it". Apologies to try the open forum approach but I'm keen on understanding if you plan to fix bugs for older software, if the issue is older software at all...

No one can stay logged in on this forum, it’s not you or your phone.

Seems to work for me. Does log out after a couple of weeks maybe, but that's hardly worth crying about.

If you want to use old phones, it might be worth looking into custom roms like lineageOS, especially if you don't want all the crap that comes pre-installed and can't be removed, or if you prefer minimal apps installed. Depending if available for your phone, it will/might give you the chance to use a more up to date android version than your phone's hardware vendor supports.

I currently running LineageOS on a Pixel 3. Using apps for banking, whatsapp, 2fa, email, not much else. Was using Garmin Connect too but it no longer pairs with my Instinct watch. Not a big deal tbh.

Au contraire!
I've not suffered the auto-logout for many years.

Don't want to jinx it, but I'm having no issues, at least not regularly.
Pixel 3a running Chrome.

I've switched to Firefox for STW browsing duties - I get fewer page hangs and fewer log out issues - might be worth a try

It occasionally happens for a few days then goes away again.

In defence of STW almost every different Android brand makes their own browser.

It's more the browser and version that's important. So what browser and version are you running?

That being said Android 8 is 5-6 years old now and we're currently on Android 13.

So I can fully understand STW not testing or supporting a 5 year old device. If it works then great, if not, unlucky.

Edit I'm on Opera ver. 73 on Android 12 and fine for me.

Are you blocking cookies? Have you ticked the box? Because I don't think this is a problem any more.

Ticking the box before entering login details worked for me.

Scary that my children would have no idea what this even means. And they're quite old now.

Running fine for me on Android 8 via a long since unsupported phone. I used to have issues and then one day it just got Dracs update and I've been fine since.

I thought I read something the other day in here about when you tick the box ie. Before or after you put your password in but can't remember any other details

Thanks everyone. I'm going to look stupid now, but yes, entering my login details after ticking the box works, doh! In my defence though, it's the only login UX I know that automatically generates a login after clicking in the username box which auto-fills. I.e. there isn't the usual login button press despite auto-fill. Not much of a defence though, but glad I posted as I'd still be stuck in my frustrating login loop (un)blissfully unaware!

I don't think I understood any of that (that's me not you! 😂) But glad it's sorted!

to be fair there have been swathes of time where the ‘remember me’ box just didn’t work. I got out of the habit of ticking it and hadn’t realised the reason I was getting logged out so frequently was because it was working and I wasn’t ticking it.

it would be a handy minor update to just move the ‘remember me’ box to above the login rather than below it

We currently are looking into the logged users out issues, this has been pushed back due to other bugs that have appeared. We support most versions of browsers, so as long as your android device can continue to get updates for your browser, you will have no problems using your devices and we are working on the bugs as fast as we can.
