Watches N+1…

@nicko74 – I do like that Sinn, I’m quite fond of the hands and indices on that model, and l love that strap, the rounded centre links really set it off, it’s completely different to anyone else. I don’t get on with rubber or silicon straps, they make my wrist too sweaty then I get a rash and the skin peels, not to mention the grotty buildup of stinky sweat, dirt and dead skin on the underside*.
I was thinking about getting a Sinn, but I’m struggling to justify it, the two cheap CasiOaks I’m wearing, (I swap between them as the mood takes me), are so light and comfy, with the stretchy woven straps I’ve put on them, that I haven’t worn any of my other watches, let alone even thought about buying another expensive one.*Yes, I know, I could take it off and wash it, or wear it in the bath or shower, but I’d usually keep it on and think that’s enough, not thinking about taking it off, but it’s mainly the fact that it doesn’t take long in hot weather for my skin to start to turn red and peel because the strap isn’t breathable, which is why I bought adapters for my CasiOaks before I bought the watches.
KatoFull MemberLoved my Lunar Pilot but ultimately I found the proportions a bit challenging and Speedy Pro came my way so it went out the door. Great watches though, I see they slimmed the size down a bit for the new ones and doubled the price too!
Kryton57Full MemberAny quick fixes for a loose bezel? Mine is loose and the protrusions catch on sleeves:
This triggers my OCD a lot, and im wondering if there’s anything I can do and avoid an expensive separate repair until I can combine it with a service.
1Kryton57Full Memberaha – the second watch based used of Dental floss – may be useful for others, worked a test and appears invisible!

nicko74Full Member@countzero: great summary, and I’m a big fan myself. It really exudes solidity, proper GADA watch, especially with the Tegimenting. And although I didn’t like the bracelet at first I’m growing to like it. The clasp isn’t the best, but it all works, and looks pretty versatile.
It’s pretty dense for its size though, heavier and more robust than a CasiOak; my suspicion is a stretchy or NATO-style strap might not be the best as the weight would shift around on your wrist.
bobloFree Member@kryton57 I’d get the nice man at Calibre to look at that. The bezel assemblies don’t look complex, sometimes just a spring or a ball and spring and it would be a shame for the bezel to wobble off unnoticed and get lost…
Kryton57Full Member@boblo it was last serviced by Calibre during lockdown ‘21 and has only been worn twice since. It’s wear – it was never the tightest and this was my daily from 2007-2014 during which i picked up the habit of using the bezel like a fidget spinner 🙁
my suspicion is a stretchy or NATO-style strap might not be the best as the weight would shift around on your wrist.
I recently bought a water resistant leather backed canvas strap for the SPB317 replacing a nato and it’s good at managing that issue:
£15 from eBay, yes it is shaped / flexible now and yes it does need to be a little distressed to compete the look 🙂
derek_starshipFree Member@Kryton57 – do you have a link (‘scuse the pun) to the ebay supplier of that strap? I think it would look great on my Lunar Pilot. What length is it? I have a 7″ wrist so need a bit of longiness.
Kryton57Full MemberI’m sure you’ll be fine, I have 6.5 inch wrist, 5 hole spare:
ebikegumFull MemberTell me what to do!!
I’ve got a lovely Rolex GMT Master II with black ceramic bezel, all boxes and papers. Has been my daily wear for the last 7-8 years. It’s in lovely condition. My eye has been caught by Tudor’s Black Bay Chrono. Do I keep the GMT or do I trade it and take the Tudor and I expect some cash?
What would you kids do??
Blazin-saddlesFull MemberSell me the GMT for trade in price and buy the Tudor ?
TheLittlestHoboFree MemberNot sure if this is acceptable but i have finally decided enough is enough with my Omega Seamaster 300 auto. It just sits in the box and i really cant see me ever using it again. The fact my dad has just bought me a Speedmaster to sit beside it means i’m even less likely to use it.
I really dont feel comfortable selling it, a watch guru friend helped me buy it originally. Ive kind of lost touch so dont feel i can ask for his help again. I am not even that bothered about its value other than to say i dont want ripped off. Where do i go with it because ive checked out a lot of these websites and i just get drowned as i really am not that clued up on them.
Any help appreciated.
Blazin-saddlesFull MemberI’d probably list it on eBay with as much detail and as good photos as you can muster, start it at a price you’re happy with and let the demand dictate the price.
Kryton57Full MemberOrdered – cheers Kryt.
Pics when it arrives….
Any help appreciated
Keep it, they won’t get any cheaper and you have a desirable model. You don’t have to love / wear it everyday to keep it, but one day you’ll likely fall in love with it again. If you want convincing go and watch Adrian Barkers review on YouTube where he goes in depth about the movement – that alone is quite a compelling reason to own one.
TheLittlestHoboFree MemberI’d probably list it on eBay with as much detail and as good photos as you can muster, start it at a price you’re happy with and let the demand dictate the price. This scares me something chronic.
I will have a look on that youtube video but i really have got sick of taking it out of its box when i go for a birthday meal, having to set it etc and then put it back in its box. My apple watch is so much more for me unfortunately.
Kryton57Full MemberA) wear it more
B) it’s your call, but that’s the reason I refuse to buy a smart watch (although secretly jealous of my 11yo stoic ability to wear one watch continuously – an instinct 2s – without a second thought)
For me it’s an appreciation of the tiny mechanics, looks and potential conversation starter for something I’m interested in. I wore my SMP for three days last week, am wearing it now only changing for the Seiko above for a weekend involving things I might bash a watch on.
Blazin-saddlesFull MemberThis scares me something chronic.
why? eBay have a good watch authentication service and protection programme. Otherwise, take it to Goldsmiths or a.n. Other watch dealer and ask for consignment selling, you’ll get much less money but you might feel more comfortable.
TheLittlestHoboFree MemberHow does the watch authentication work. Do i send it off to ebay for this?
Yes Kryton, the smart watch has kind of killed off any appreciation i had of a nice watch. It simply takes the watch from a piece of art to something that has no significance at all.
I have called the local jewellers and made an appointment to go and see them. If they offer me anything reasonable (I dont know what reasonable is) then i will take it.
TheLittlestHoboFree MemberHad a good read of the ebay authentification process. Seems excellent service. If i list it as starting at £1500 then it gets sent for authentification etc free of charge.
I will see what the shop says then decide whether to list it. Thanks for the help
KatoFull MemberI’ve sold on eBay. You send it to the authenticator and they send it on after they’re finished. Was a painless process
KatoFull MemberI wouldn’t be selling the GMT to fund a Tudor Chrono. Keep the GMT and find another way to get the money!
Kryton57Full MemberLooks great Derek! Happy with it? Wear it for a few days and it softens up nicely.
w00dsterFull MemberLittlest Hobo, put pics up here, you never know there could be a taker. Maybe add the year and info on scratches. I’m sure the more knowledgeable on here may help to ensure you don’t list it too low.
I use eBay a fair bit for selling my watches, even sold a Rolex on eBay. eBay do take a fairly heft chunk, but it is what it is.
neilnevillFree MemberFor Hobo, a quick search of tz-uk sales Corner. These are peer to peer and mates rates kinda prices, good sell to a dealer for a little less but not loads and loads.
Current smp, 2019, blue, rubber strap £2700 (cripes that went cheap, but it didn’t sell at 2800)
A black 2020 one listed back in June at £3200 remains unsold, which as its on the bracelet isn’t bad price but everything is down currently…. tnt economy is shot.
Bond quartz smp on bracelet £1795
A 2006 2254.50 listed early Aug at a possibility hopeful £2595 remains. This is a sword hand watch which is a bit more popular than the Skeleton hand bond, plus it has a nicer bracelet so they do go for a little more then Bond era smps…. so £2600 seems hopeful but not ridiculous
September 2023 green on rubber (green still commands a bit more then black and blue, not sure where white sits these days) £3600…. that feels too much to me on rubber but…..ah. read the full thread, it sold at £3300
Silver and blue on rubber £2500
Ahh another 2254.50 at a more sensible £2100. Cripes! Unsold since June.
A couple of goldeneye, 254.80 £1600 on bracelet quartz, both sold at that.
Hopefully gives an idea.
nicko74Full MemberLittlestHobo, let us know how you get on. I have a couple I’m planning to sell in the medium term (Oris 10-day ProPilot, Tudor Heritage Chrono) and no clue how to go about it. Reddit/ TZ-UK etc all seem to be fairly closed to newcomers; Chrono24 is a bit tough to read for selling; so it does seem to come down to ebay.
TheLittlestHoboFree MemberWow thanks guys. I dont have a picture hosting account. Can i message the pics to someone and see what they think
@neilnevill just realised i discussed this watch with you back in 2019. WOW you were helpful back then too. Nothing has changed tbhLooking at the paperwork (I have a receipt from 2014 for used purchase) it has a reference of 2531.80.00 and its a Nov 04 watch. 41mm Automatic.
TheLittlestHoboFree MemberNicko74 i will keep this updated if it helps. Taking it to a retailers today to see what they think. TBH i am not expecting much. Even if it was worth £3k i would expect them to offer no more than £1k due to margins etc. We will see.
Kryton57Full MemberHobo you can use the “scenery” logo above to select a pic direct from you device, but if you have trouble send me the pic at Kryton57 at sky dot com and I’ll post it for you.
1tthewFull MemberHobo you can use the “scenery” logo above to select a pic direct from you device
Not as a free member IIRC.
Hobo, you can use postimages.org without any kind of account.
TheLittlestHoboFree MemberI have mailed you Kryton. Thanks
Just come back from the jewellers. The guy who does the valuing is off ill so ive left it with them. TBH i wasnt very impressed with the lady that dealt with me, very hostile which i couldn’t understand. Zero communication when i tried to be friendly and started off with claiming it was faulty until i pointed out she hadnt pulled the adjuster out enough to wind it and it was an automatic. She just sat there adjusting the date and time for a 5 mins while i looked at the top of her head and then wrote a receipt out. I think i will get a more personal service from Ebay tbh.
Lets see what they come back with. Will be interesting if you guys guess too. Mine is under £1k. It hasnt had a service in my ownership so it is overdue a service. No damage other than wear on clasp. Keeps pretty good time if worn regular. Not sure what else to add
Kryton57Full Member1 x Omega for expert critique… ‘Hobo, I’ve left the warranty cards and papers off for fraud issues via public pictures.
neilnevillFree MemberIf they don’t deal much in Omega watches, or for some other reason they just don’t want it, then you’ll get a ridiculous offer.
A Skeleton hands, wave dial 2531, decent average condition, I’d guess £2200-2400, plus or minus £300+ for condition. A decent dealer that wants it would pay about 65-70% of that, so ~£1500 is a decent offer maybe. You will readily get more on ebay.
1TheLittlestHoboFree MemberThanks Kryton. I didnt know there would be any issue with the numbers on the cards etc.
neilnevill at £1500.
KatoFull MemberI sold my 2541.80 quartz on eBay for £1600 a couple of years ago and it was battered
Blazin-saddlesFull MemberThe cheapest 2531 sold on eBay recently was £1500, most of them £2k-£2.4k…
I just sold one of my watches via eBay, sold last night, had the money in my account this morning and it’ll be off to authentication this morning.
The market is a bit flat at the moment and I took a couple of hundred less than expected for mine but nice condition, popular, well priced models always sell.
