I’d appreciate any advice on the following.   On Friday I replaced my old Android phone with another Android phone. I’ve still got (Moto G9 Power) and it still works well. I’ve just realised that the old phone still has its old 4G Sim, new phone is 5G.

The old one still lets me make calls and send texts – but not receive them. I can still send emails and receive them.

Whatsapp doesn’t work but I understand that.  Google maps still tracks me.

Web activity still works, Strava works, Komoot works.

Btw, I have Wifi  turned off.

Is this normal?  Apart from not being able to receive calls or texts it looks like I could continue to use the old one as a “rough and ready” sort of backup.

    Clone the SIM.

Get it done in one of those little kiosk things in a mall.

I need to do this for my ride phone. The better phone can stay at home.

    🙂

I wasn’t expecting the old phone to do anything much unless connected to wifi…. but it still shows a 4G connection.

That’s what I wondered.  If it stayed as it is it would be a bit useful, although limited.  I’ll just keep the old one powered up and see what happens.

Yes it’s just the port taking a while, not a big issue.

    Clone the SIM.

Ooooh, is that as straightforward as it sounds ?

Cloning  the sim would be ace for me too as I’m looking to get a new phone and it would be good to keep the old phone for on the bike as its loaded up with all my maps and stuff.

Didn’t even know it was a thing ?

Tell us more about SIM cloning. Would be useful to have 1 number, 2 SIMS
