It’s amazing what bubbles up in my consciousness.

While I’m not suggesting for a second I would buy or wear such a thing, does anyone else remember someone doing tweed bike jackets with reflective thread in them, or am I confabulating this?

Think rapha did one? Or it may have been Paul Smith or Dashing Tweeds.

Could have been Dashing Tweeds but their website is very ‘come into our shop’ and I’m sure what I saw years ago was less bespoke

We had a person turn up to a group mountain bike ride wearing a tweed jacket, smart trousers, a shirt and tie, a jumper and a pair of brown leather shoes.

He was riding a mountain bike with loads of heavy things in the panniers.

He was training to go on a CTC  holiday.

I sometimes rock tweed shooting breeks on my fixed gear. Winter only mind.

Bruce- are you near Chester by any chance? There’s a guy in Northop who you matches your description. He fits his forks back to front because he prefers it that way (yes, I know….   ) and rode London to Paris that way.

I am in Manchester so it could have been the same chap.

The next time he showed up he wore a 70s nylon tracksuit for an entire camping weekend which was apparently a tad odiferous by the second day. Fortunately I didn’t go that weekend.

Many years ago and old boy in my cycling club told me that when he was a young lad in the club (it was founded in 1881) there was a copper who rode the club rides smoking a pipe.

I have no idea what he wore but  tweed would fit the picture I guess.

Tweed is supposed to be pretty waterproof though I imagine it smells strongly of damp sheep when wet
