Turkey Teeth

mahaloFull Member
I am looking for any experiences, recco’s, testamonials… horror stories… on having dental work done in Turkey to save a few quid.
I am not after a gleaming Hollywood smile. i just have a few gaps id like to fill with either implants, bridges or some other method i dont even know about?
Context. i have neglected oral health pretty much my entire adult life (since i was old enough to pay!) but ive been quite lucky my teeth always seemed fine, never had any trouble or pain, they are straight and a good colour. i have always brushed, flossed, mouthwashed etc. so never felt there was any need to go the dentist.
Cut to 25 years later and teeth started to drop out! not drop out but cavities started to appear, which would get bigger and bigger until the tooth snapped away sort of thing. I continued to neglect them until one day recently a large prominent premolar basically crumbled away as i bit into a slightly tough baguette and i decided it was time to sort them out.
I have already spent approx £2k now on dental work the past few months, nothing cosmetic, all fillings and extractions. but i now have a fully healthy mouth free from any retainer roots, broken teeth or decay.
My dentist is now wanting to discuss a plan for replacements! and looking at their prices has led me down this road!.
So Turkey? as i said i dont need a perfect row of uniform soldiers. i just need 3 gaps filling that are visible when i smile wide enough. i am also missing pretty much all of my lower right molars which makes chewing a bit awkward and im thinking i may as well get a few small chips on the incisors seen to while im at it…
any advice greatly received…

Ask for a referral to an nhs dental hospital, DO NOT go to Turkey
2longdogFree MemberMy daughter scrubs for maxofacial ops sometimes, she has some stories, do not go to Turkey!
If it was me I’d not worry too much about the smile, but struggling chewing I’d be more inclined to deal with.
I have a molar missing top one side and bottom the other which causes me no bother, but another couple alongside that are more filling than than tooth that I’m praying will hang on as the prices are scary.
mahaloFull MemberI mean the thought of ripping out perfectly health teeth to drill in a train ticket smile like that is bonkers to me but obvioulsy that does go on, and that’s the overriding misconception turkey teeth has.
i already have the gaps. its just a couple of implants, at about 1/3 of the cost in UK. what could go wrong lol
1nbtFull Memberif you’ve done your research as to how cheap turkey is relative to the UK, have you also resarched issue reported by people who’ve had teeth done in turkey? a quick google for “turkey teeth problems” does not inspire confidence…
v7fmpFull Membertwo guys from work have been to Turkey for a fresh smile.
Neither have had any issues and all went well.
I am sure its like most things, you hear the few horror stories and none of the positive stories from the hundreds of others that have had great success.
I guess like most things, you can go super cheap or you can pay more, even in Turkey.
4DrPFull MemberIt’s actually spelt “turkey teef” by those in the know…
Starts with this… Ends with love island …
DrP
1desperatebicycleFull Memberhave you also resarched issue reported by people who’ve had teeth done in turkey?
I think that’s what he’s doing … maybe not the right forum for it. .. onlywayisessextrackworld.com maybe 😛
timbaFree MemberHave a read of this by Adam Taylor, Professor and Director of the Clinical Anatomy Learning Centre, Lancaster University https://theconversation.com/veneers-implants-and-agonising-pain-the-risks-of-cosmetic-dentistry-are-nothing-to-smile-about-227687
Hollywood heart throb Clark Gable had dentures fitted at age 32, just saying…
mr eddFree MemberThis is an interesting article. Not everyone going to Turkey for purely cosmetic dentistry. To the OP for what you describe do your research and come to your own conclusions. There are brilliant dentists in Turkey and far more people who are delighted with the treatments they receive than those who have horror stories.
TheFlyingOxFull MemberPersonally know two people (workmates) who went to Turkey for teeth and one (my mum) who went for a hip replacement. All three can’t speak highly enough of the way they were treated and how happy they are with the end result.
If I was in need of something like that I wouldn’t have any qualms about going Turkish.
desperatebicycleFull MemberI’ve had a (necessary) implant done in the UK privately. It cost £1000s, was bloody painful and isn’t even a great match for my other teeth! Just sayin
mattyfezFull MemberI guess the problem is getting any issues rectified if there are problems.. With stuff like implants , if you had to get any remidial work done.. Would a UK dentist even go near it?
I don’t think the NHS does implant work as it’s classed as cosmetic It’s dentures only?
I’m tempted to get some work done in Spain as I know someone who’s had work done and very happy with it and its pretty much half the cost of what UK private dentists charge.. Feels a bit safer as I have strong links with the area and go over often..
alpinFree MemberMy aunt went to Latvia a few years ago for dental work. Was about half the price of getting it done in the UK and that included flights and hotel stay.
Lots of people in Germany go to Hungary. There are companies who organise the whole trip including train travel, hotel, chauffeur to the dentist….. Health insurance even pays for the whole thing as its cheaper than getting it done in Germany.
MoreCashThanDashFull MemberI know a few people who went to Poland before Turkey became “the place”. They were all happy.
A colleague recently took a family member over for dental work and no issues so far. Apparently the sheer number of people with visible bandages from various cosmetic treatments on the flight home was ridiculous.
1argeeFull MemberSounds like you have a case to see if you can get it cheaper in Turkey, think the whole negativity is around people in their 20s having perfectly good teeth ground down and destroyed to get a hollywood smile.
Best bet is to find a place you like the look off, and then hit forums with testimonials from them, you’ll just get a lot of negativity on here and most other places due to the love island / geordie shore stuff 🤣
davosaurusrexFull MemberLol! Maybe look for a buy two get one free offer? Although that’s now reminding me of Total Recall
natrixFree MemberI’d avoid implants if at all possible. I’ve had two done in the UK, the first was fine but the second has been a PITA over the past 3 years. I’ve had it re-bonded about 10 times and had a bridge installed to support it, now have to sleep with a mouthguard to protect it. Also, whan I get sinusitius, I have pain around the implant. The success rate is 90 to 95% https://www.healthline.com/health/dental-and-oral-health/how-long-do-dental-implants-last so if you have 3 or 4 there’s a reasonable chance one will fail……………..
CountZeroFull MemberWait around for a bit, tooth bud implants are being developed to allow new teeth to be regrown. Something like stem cell therapy.
Smile like a shark… 😁
1dc1988Full MemberI have an implant that was done in the UK, I’ve had zero issues after about 7 years but given the number of appointments it took to complete, I struggle to see how it could be done properly without having to make multiple trips over quite a period of time. I’d have thought just the travel alone would cost a significant amount of money and time Vs a local appointment.
jamesozFull MemberI’ve wondered about the number of visits myself. I’ve had 4 crowns done recently and after the root canal treatment, temporary crowns were fitted and return visits to fit the new crowns. I was under the impression this was to allow things to settle down a bit, maybe in case the root canal fails and also for the crowns to be made.
I do know someone who went to Poland for similar work and ended up having the work done again due to abscesses. Possibly due to failing to remove the entire nerve.
I do remember my current dentist taking much more time to ensure complete Nerve removal than my last dentist.
When my front teeth were re crowned there was some left. It did last over 20 years though.
mahaloFull Memberthanks all for your inputs.
Im not too bothered about travelling over once or twice as i would make a holiday out of it, but yeah multiple repeat visits would be a ball ache…
thisisnotaspoonFree MemberLet us know how you get on, I’m in a similar boat as I lost my private dental cover when i got made redundant and let a chipped molar go bad. It’s been pulled out now but they did say the likelihood of the remaining molar and wisdom tooth either side going bad is now higher and if one of those goes then I’ll have to get something done.

There’s a list of what the NHS will do.
Then there’s the problem of what individual dentists will do because the NHS prices don’t even cover the costs of more complex root canals these days.
Then there’s finding an NHS dentist or then getting a referral to the hospital. It took over 2 years and repeated infections / courses of antibiotics between an emergency dentist putting a temporary dressing on it that “should be OK for 4-6 weeks” and getting it removed.
F*** the Tories.
desperatebicycleFull MemberSpoke to my partner about this – she goes to her home country for medical stuff and has a bunch of friends who will do similar for their teeth – she reckons Turkey is ok – apparently there are posters advertising dentists in the airport when you arrive. She has a friend who went to India (bit far) to get some work done.. I think the other place she mentioned was Latvia… do a bit of research (more than on here!) and I reckon you could find somewhere that doesn’t charge the extortionate prices of this country and does just as good a job.
tuboflardFull MemberI’d be probably wanting to stay in the UK.

FunkyDuncFree MemberThen there’s finding an NHS dentist or then getting a referral to the hospital.
A private dentist can do a referral to an NHS dental hospital, as can a GP (in theory)
F*** the Tories.
Just for balance F*** the Labours too who dont appear to have any better plans than the Tories to improve the situation.

I’d be probably wanting to stay in the UK.I stopped reading at X … that bastion of truth and balanced info.
somafunkFull MemberI had an 6 month old front implant fall out whilst in India and had it replaced with a new bone/screw implant by a fantastic dentist in Mapusa Goa, extremely clinical setting full of fancy equipment that my dentist back in Scotland didn’t have and it only cost £70, this was back in 2001 mind you.
A mate spends 3 month every winter in Goa since 2010 and he goes to the same dentist, for the price of one implant in this country he can get flights, dental treatment, cottage in Goa, spending money for his trip and still come home better off.
poolmanFree MemberI am in Spain ATM, last week I chipped an edge off a back tooth so went to local dentist. She said a filling would be a waste of time so polished off rough edge, hygienist cleaned. I went to pay thinking maybe 100e, it was 35e all in.
desperatebicycleFull MemberPartner is currently in Hungary. Sent me this photo from near their hotel 😆
Who to choose?!
