Tried following the installation instructions in reverse - removed the retaining bolt with a 8mm wrench, but twisting the APS (?) collar doesnt pop the non drive crank arm off. What am I doing wrong?

Seems over engineered, not to mention the need for a £15 specific tool to change the rings....

Install video... if you've removed the bolt holding the non-drive side cranks on, just give the arm a tap with a #1 screw driver (hammer/mallet) to release it.. the abs is purely to take up the slack, it won't 'release' the arm, assuming I've understood your issue.

Thanks Zippy, that's the issue - I got the impression that the ABS was some sort of extractor, as well as taking up slack. Out with the hammer then!

The cranks should have come with a tool you thread into the crank bolt to pop the arm off the splines

As Catfish says they should have come with a specific tool for that purpose. It looks likes a replacement crank bolt but is shaped to loosen the arm from the interface.

No idea what tool you guys are talking about, my set didn't need anying special & if you watch the install video, you'll see it's 'basically' like a HT 2 axle fitment wise

???

This - http://buy.bythehive.com/TRS-race-crank-arm-fixing-bolt-and-removal-tool

Looks like the crank bolt that attaches the non drive said, but is described as also being the "removal tool" - confused.

has the bolt come out of the non-crankside arm? It's been a while since I used the crankset, but IIRC, it might have pulled the crankarm off as you undid the last bit.. hang on I'll go look at my set in the garage.. BUT I definitely have no special tool and have fitted/removed it a number of times.

Checked everything with my bike, no removal tood. The installation instructions dont mention one in the E13 video.

Pulled my old set out of storage, ok the non-drive side arm bolt is integrated into the arm, you need to unwind that & the arm should come off (or maybe need a tap with a mallet, I wasn't advocating more than that)... My set are from 2013, but I wouldn't have thought they'd have redesigned it that much

They have been redesigned, saw a set like yours in my LBS last week. Waiting on the tool from e13, but worried I stripped the thread trying to do the job with an ISIS tool. Angle grinder anyone?!
