Numbness in fingers, feeling of swelling in same arm, severe pain in most situations.  Heat provides temporary releif.

Anyone had similar?  Any tips for remedy/recovery?

Had a trapped nerve in my neck back in 2010, lasted about three months. Properly painful, and occasionally immobilising.

The doctor was useless, basically just gave me some painkillers (codine, which sent my brain funny) and sent me away again. Physio and chiropractor couldn’t help, although at least tried harder. The only person who gives temporary relief was the girl at the gym who did the massages. It eventually freed itself suddenly (and painfully, albeit it with massive relief) My best advice is keep moving as much as you can, try to get it freed up

GP first to exclude serious issues.  Do this as a priority.

If its just muscle spasm then massage will help

    Similar to Andrewh. Trapped nerve.

Doctor prescribed Amitriptyline to calm the nerve and went and got physio, calmed down after about 4 months.

GP to rule out anything serious.

Physio to track down the root cause. Not long finished a couple of months treatment for this very thing. In my case a nerve was getting pinched under my shoulder blade, bad posture being a big factor.

Half a dozen sessions of soft tissue work and a LOT of “exercise homework” sorted it out. As it was released the symptoms moved up and down my arm and shoulder, for added fun.

If you are Nottingham/Derby way I can recommend the physio I used. Think her other half may be on here actually.

Acupuncture is my saviour for my back/neck issues when they flare up. I thought it was mumbo jumbo but after months of unsuccessful physio I gave it ago and was amazed at the results. The guy I went to was also a GP and he said to give it 4 goes, if no improvement after 4 it wasn’t going to help, I swear by it now.
